Lao Chai Village

This is the most exciting and spectacular adventure in Vietnam. The northwest is still very much off the beaten path and is a captivating blend of dramatic landscapes and colorful hill tribes. This adventure takes you through stunning and isolated areas, which have changed little over time yet is steeped in history. You will not only experience real rural Vietnam but will also meet and talk to numerous different ethnic minority groups who are very pleased to welcome you into their world.

Lao Chai Village

Day 1:  Hanoi - Mai Chau (140 km) ( Lunch, Dinner )

After breakfast we depart Hanoi for a three-hour drive to the town of Mai Chau. Upon arrival, we get onto the house on stilts of a Thai family where we are to stay the night. Having a short walk to explore the neighbouring villages before lunch. Afternoon we have a 2 hours walk through the various ethnic minority villages in this area. Stay overnight at homestay.
Option: an in-house music show performed by local artists. (Lunch and Dinner included)

Day 2:  Mai Chau - Son La (170 km) ( Breakfast, Lunch )

07h00 am, after having breakfast in the house on stilts we start to ride our bike around Thai minority area to Sam Khoe, Xo village, NaMo village, NaMeo village, with escort motor bike & mechanic to assistant water and mechanic tools, and cycling back to Lac village for lunch. Cycling route is 45km village road. After lunch you will have a short time for shopping in the village to buy local weaving staff and souvenirs.
Departing Mai Chau we make our way west to Son La. Stop at the small township of Moc Chau for a short tea break, we then have a brief look around this little hill town. Arriving in Son La in the afternoon we will check into our local guesthouse where we spend the night. Son La is located in a scenic valley, inhabited by Thai, Muong and H'mong minority people. This area was famous for its involvement in the Vietnamese struggle for independence from France during the first half the 20th century. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 3:  Son La – Dien Bien (180 km) ( Breakfast, Lunch )

Following breakfast we will visit Son La prison, which is the remains of hundred historical relics in French war remnant prison museum. We drive to Pha Din pass where named as the longest pass in Viet Nam. We set our bike and start to ride over it. In the top of this mountain, we can read about the magnanimous Viet Minh move up to the battle Dien Bien Phu strongest hold in the world in the war in 1954. Stop for lunch at Tuan Giao town. Continue for another coupe of hours arriving Dien Bien town. Overnight at hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are included)

Day 4:  Dien Bien – Baso (200km) ( Breakfast, Lunch )

Dien Bien Phu valley: Historical Sites, located in and around the 20km-long, 6 -8km wide valley of Dien Bien Phu. After the victorious battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, almost all historical sites of this battle lying to the east of the Muong Thanh Field have been preserved intact. Morning, we drive to visit Hill A1, cemetery, Dien Bien Phu museum and General Decarte Bunker. Continue our journey a 100km, we drive to Muong Lay town for lunch. Our destination for today will be Baso, a long journey on rough roads (3 – 4 hours in the afternoon), but it is worthwhile as the scenery is dramatic. Along the way we will encounter members of While Thai, Black Thai, H’mong. Cicling and stopping in a slow speed for some chit chats with the locals. Arrive Baso around 19:00 pm. (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are included) ( Cycling distance: 30 - 50km)

Day 5:  Baso – Sapa (86 km) ( Breakfast, Lunch )

After breakfast, we set our bikes for a ride to Tam Duong where we meet a local market with colorful dress on difference ethnic hill tribe minorities. After taking photos in the market, we back on the riding route to proceed to Sapa. Before arriving Sapa, we meet the beautiful Silver Waterfall and if we have enough time, we might visit the Cat Cat village of Black Hmong which are very popular with tourist. We arrive at the beautiful hill station of Sapa late in the afternoon. (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are included)

Day 6:  Sapa

Today we start by getting some exercise with a five to six hour trek to the hill tribe villages of Lao Chai, Ta Van, Giang Ta Chai,... situated in idyllic Muong Hoa valleys, which are covered with rice terraces. Get picked up back to Sapa. Free to explore the town. (Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are inlcuded).
Advise Options: You shell go to go to visit Cat Cat village, Ham Rong mountain and the daily performents. ( Cycling distance: 30 - 50km).

Day 7:  Sapa – Hanoi (380 km) ( Breakfast, Lunch )

We bid farewell to Sapa and its friendly people for a long journey back to Hanoi. It is a 10-hour journey back to the nation's capital along some of Vietnam's most scenic roads. (Breakfast, Lunch)
(Cycling distance: 50km - 80km)
Option: Overnight rain trip back to Hanoi in the evening. (Own expense)
