From your luxury hotel in the center of Vientiane, you take a tour of this laid-back capital city, and watch the sunset over the Mekong River. You see all the famous landmarks such as Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in Vientiane, the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, the Patuxay Monument, or “Victory Gate”, and the revered That Luang Stupa. Shopping for Lao handicrafts and souvenirs is also on the agenda, before taking a short flight to the ancient capital of Luang Prabang.
Here you take a tour of the many ancient temples and shrines Luang Prabangis famous for. A boat trip up the Mekong River takes you to the mysterious Pak Ou Cave, and you stop at ethnic villages on the way there and on the way back. You swim and relax in the clear, cool pools at the foot of a beautiful natural waterfall, and take a walk along paths through the green forest.
You also see the early morning ritual of saffron-clad monks padding silently along the streets carrying alms bowls. You also visit the National Museum (the former royal palace) and see displays of ancient artifacts attesting to the long and rich history of Laos.

Day 1:  Vientiane Arrival ( Dinner )

When you arrive, you will be met by our staff and transferred to your luxury hotel in the center of the city for check-in. After getting settled-in and taking a short rest, there will be a short orientation tour of the city. Vientiane is developing, but it still retains a laid-back feeling to it. You can take a look around the city and see the variety of architectural styles, and then watch the sun set over the Mekong River. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner at a deluxe restaurant.

Day 2:  Vientiane City Tour - Luang Prabang (Domestic Flight) ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )

After breakfast in the hotel, we start the day with a tour of the capital. First we visit the oldest temple in Vientiane, Wat Sisaket, with its thousands of miniature statues of Buddha. Then across the road is the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo which previously held the famous Emerald Buddha. Then we stop at the Patuxay Monument, or “Victory Gate” at the end of Lane Xang Avenue for you to take some photographs. Then we see the famous and revered Buddhist monument, That Luang Stupa. We will also have time to visit Talat Sao (Morning Market), Vientiane’s main market where you can shop for a variety of Lao handicrafts and souvenirs.
Then you get ready to go to the airport for the short flight to Luang Prabang. When you land, you are met by our staff and transferred to you deluxe hotel. After getting settled in, we drive to a beautiful waterfall in natural surroundings. Bring your swimsuit so you can swim and play in the clear, cool pools. You can also walk along the green forest paths. Then we return to the city in the late evening, and watch the sunset at Wat Siphouthabath.

Day 3:  Luang Prabang Tour - Pak Ou Caves ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )

After breakfast, we take a guided tour of Luang Prabang’stemples and shrines. We visit the city’s oldest temple, the stupa of Wat Visoun, and the shrine at Wat Mai, Wat Sene, and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its low sweeping roof, typical of the architectural style of Luang Prabang temples. We then take a boat ride up the Mekong River to the mysterious Pak Ou Cave. Our cruise upstream provides beautiful views of the countryside, and along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, famous for producing the traditional alcoholic Lao drink made from rice. You see the distillation process, and even sample the product. We arrive at Pak Ou Caves packed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. On our return to Luang Prabang, we will stop at the village of Ban Xiengmene, then visit a former royal temple, and the nearby Sackarine Cave. We also take a short drive to the village of Ban Phanom, known for excellent hand woven cloth.

Day 4:  Luang Prabang Departure ( Breakfast )

If you get up early, you will have the chance to see the daily early morning ritual of long lines of saffron-clad monks walking along the streets carrying alms bowls. They walk along the street lined with Buddhist believers giving offerings of food. After breakfast we visit the former royal palace, which is now the National Museum, with displays of artifacts demonstrating the richness of Lao history dating from the days of the early kings to the last sovereign. Time permitting, you can visit the central market and do some last minute shopping for bargains.
Then all to soon it will be time to prepare for your departure transfer for your return flight or onward travel.
